Mark Popel


I am a creative Master of Architecture Graduate with a passion to challenge, explore and enhance the built environment around us. I pride my self on tackling projects with a site-specific focus to generateoutcomes that heighten user experience and overall sense of community. My background in Sociology has given me a framework of experience and knowledge of various social issues. My firsthand Universal Design experience has provided me with a diverse outlook when approaching projects and design decisions.


Master of Architecture 
2018 - 2020
  • I obtained a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Calgary’s School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape. My studio projects have allowed me to gain a diverse experience from social architecture and planning to computational design and research.
Bachelor of Arts Urban Studies (Distinction)
2012 - 2018
  • At the University of Calgary I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies, with a double minor in Sociology and Architectural Studies. Through this degree I earned “Distinction Status”, which is awarded to students with a final grade point average of 3.75 - 4.00.

Work Experience

LPF - Project Assistant 
2019.04 – Present
  • I am currently employed as a Project Assistant with Level Playing Field; a consulting firm that aims to elevate the human experience through built environments that embody inclusivity, resilience and connectivity. This position has allowed me to work with diverse user groups with unique and varying abilities. My role at the firm predominantly includes writing proposals to RFP’s and analyzing plans at various stages for ongoing educational, retail, and government architectural projects. I am also responsible for compiling accessibility reports, and creating presentations for marketing and user engagement sessions.
